KSP is a space flight simulator where you can build your own space program. It’s different from other games in the sense that you’re not restricted to the rocket your given to you at the start. You can design your own ship and even walk around it in first person. We’ve made a tutorial which shows you how to move between docking ports on a space station in KSP.
The goal of this tutorial is to provide a step by step guide on how to dock KSP on a planet or space station. I hope you will find it useful and interesting.

Docking is an important part of Kerbal Space Program . You can pull off some amazing stunts with the right planning and preparation, but they only work in the game if you get a little lucky at times. A properly-docked craft, however, is a joy to behold, and one that doesn’t break on re-entry, either. This tutorial shows you the basics of docking in KSP and hopefully by the end you will be able to pull off an impressive feat such as docking with one other module, or with your own ship, or with a single structure. We assume you’ve already got a basic understanding of how to fly in KSP .
Here’s the most comprehensive Kerbal Space Program lesson and guide I’ve come across. For a long time, I couldn’t figure out how to dock in this game since every instruction seemed confusing to me. But this video clearly explains everything, and I’ve finally grasped it! Don’t quit up since it’s really a lot easier than I first imagined. Once you’ve done it once, it won’t be difficult for you to do it again.
Docking hints from KSP
- Make sure all spacecraft have adequate RCS (monoprop) fuel when designing a docking mechanism. You may spend a lot of time attempting to dock, and nothing is more irritating than running out of monoprop while you’re less than 1000 kilometers from your destination.
- Make sure your destination has the same inclination as you; this will make docking and rendezvous much simpler. To alter your inclination in respect to the goal, use the ascending and descending nodes.
- The most important advice I can offer you for learning how to dock in Kerbal Space Program is to attempt to press the (X) on your navball to the pink target until your relative speed to the target is 5 m/s or below after you reach within 5000km of your docking destination (make sure you have your target chosen). You may now turn off your engines and gently dock with the target using your RCS thrusters. Use your H key to go forward, N to go backward, J to go left, L to go right, I to go down, and K to go up in RCS.
- Download MechJeb or Kerbal Engineer if you need additional assistance. They have excellent docking stats, and MechJeb even includes a rendezvous module that can considerably assist you in approaching the target you wish to dock with.
Please submit any questions, comments, or your own Kerbal Space Program docking hints, tips, and techniques in the comments area below. Thank you for stopping by and contributing. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have about docking, since I understand it’s the most difficult aspect of the game.
