Kanye West risks another feud with Taylor Swift as he namedrops her in new song (2024)

Taylor Swift and Kanye West have been embroiled in a bitter feud for almost a decade and it seems could be about to go from bad to worse with the rapper's new song

Kanye West has risked worsening his feud with Taylor Swift as he dropped her name again in a new song during his Vultures album listening party.

The controversial rapper took to the stage in New York City on Friday night to promote the release of his new album with Ty Dolla Sign. In Kanye's new song Carnival, Taylor's name appears among a list of controversial figures including R. Kelly and P Diddy.

Kanye raps: "Now I'm Ye Kelly, b***h, now I'm Bill Cosby, b***h, now I'm Puff Daddy rich, that's Me Too rich. I mean since Taylor Swift, since I had a Rollie on the wrist. I'm the new Jesus, b***h." Kanye previously mentioned the Love Story hitmaker on his 2016 song Famous, which started a long feud between them.

In famous, he sang: "For all my South Side n****s that know me best, I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that b***h famous." Taylor's fans aren't happy with his new tune and took to X to share their thoughts.

"Kanye is so obsessed with taylor help," one person wrote. Another said: "Backstabber Kanye and his whole mysogynistic fandom is so obsessed with Taylor Swift. Come one, can't you be relevant without using TS for clout?"

A third fan suggested Kanye should actually thank Taylor for helping his career. They wrote: "The most I think about, despite what Kanye says and his fans say all the time, Taylor Swift changed the trajectory of his career and life A LOT more than Kanye did to hers, at least in the long run."

Kanye and Taylor's feud reached boiling points in February 2016 when the rapper debuted his new song Famous which included a dig at Taylor. There was a huge backlash to the song, with Kanye then claiming to have gained permission from Taylor to name-drop her following an hour-long phone conversation. In June that year, Kanye released the accompanying music video to Famous.

The controversial video featured a naked wax figure of Taylor. Other people in the video included Caitlyn Jenner and Kanye's now-ex-wife Kim Kardashian.

Kim then jumped into Kanye and Taylor's feud, claiming the Blank Space hitmaker knew about the song. "She totally approved that. She totally knew that that was coming out," Kim told GQ magazine. Taylor's spokesperson was quick to comment on Kim's statement. They insisted Kim's statement was incorrect and said Taylor had not known about the lyrics.

In response, Kim released a recording of a phone call which happened between Taylor and Kanye. "It's like a compliment," Taylor can be heard saying after Kanye seemingly reads her the lyrics that say: "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex." In 2020, however, the full phone call was leaked. This showed Taylor had never been made aware of the lyrics: "I made that b***h famous".

The new drama comes after Taylor revealed opened up about how her feud with Kanye made her felt. "Make no mistake - my career was taken away from me," she told TIME magazine.

Discussing the toll it took on her mental health, Taylor said: "You have a fully manufactured frame job, in an illegally recorded phone call, which Kim Kardashian edited and then put out to say to everyone that I was a liar. That took me down psychologically to a place I've never been before."

She was forced to move to a different country and said she "didn't leave a rental house for a year". Taylor also admitted the experience left her "afraid" to take phone calls.
