The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) owns and operate two airports: Nashville International Airport (BNA) and John C. Tune Airport (JWN). JWN is located at 110 Tune Airport Dr, Nashville, TN 37209. According to a recent study, in 2019 alone, BNA and JWN generated more than $9.9 billion in total economic impact, supported more than 76,000 jobs in the region and produced more than $443 million in state, local and federal taxes. In June 2022, John C. Tune Airport celebrated its 36th birthday and its redevelopment after the devastation caused by a tornado in March 2020. The airport invested more than $38.5M to rebuild JVM to include 100 hangers, 28 tie-downs and 300,000 square feet of pavement, as well as a $3.5m ramp expansion. In calendar year 2022, JVM averaged 9,000 operations per month. Today, John C. Tune is the busiest general aviation airport in Tennessee and serves the needs of regional, corporate, and private aircraft, and the reliever airport for BNA.

Starting Salary Range $124,319 – $169,142

Job Summary: Under the direction and guidance of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority (MNAA) Chief Operating Officer, the Assistant Vice President, John C. Tune Airport (JWN) Airport Manager, is responsible for the safe and professional operation of the MNAA’s general aviation facility while delivering first class customer service to all customers and guests. The JWN Airport Manager requires exceptional leadership, strategic planning, communication, and strong organizational skills to lead an experienced crew and other FBO team members.

Essential Job Duties:

Provides exemplary customer service to all individuals by demonstrating a willingness to be attentive, understanding, responsive, fair, courteous, and respectful, and to actively participate in maintaining a positive customer service environment.
Manages the day-to-day airport operations, safety, and security functions.
Requires a thorough knowledge of airport laws and understanding of operational standards, airport safety, and security regulations.
Ensures compliance with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Federal Aviation Regulations and TDOT Aeronautics requirements; maintains and updates the Airport Emergency Plan.
Manages Airport Credentialing/Airport ID functions in compliance with MNAA policies and procedures.
Provides leadership and works with staff to create a high performance, service-oriented work environment that supports the Nashville airport experience.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Authority’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, coaching/mentoring & training staff, planning and directing work, appraising performance and resolving problems.
Directs procurement activities including request for quotes (RFQ) and request for proposal (RFP) preparation, vendor selection, contract negotiation, scope of work definitions and ensures contract compliance.
Manages the development of specific portions of the airport rules, regulations, and safety programs.
Develops, implements, and follows airport safety and security regulations.
Develops, reviews, and administers division budgets for operations, and security; assists with the preparation of the Airport Capital Improvement Program (ACIP) submission in coordination with the MNAA Finance department.
Manages the noise issues, including coordinating complaint responses.
Develops and directs the airport’s emergency response plan and oversees staff training; plans and conducts ongoing safety and job training.
Acts as liaison for FAA required equipment services.
Ensures compliance with environmental regulations including storm water, hazardous materials, and wetlands preservation; maintains and updates Environmental Compliance Manual.
Recommends and helps develop general policies for Airport operations and security activities.
Develops, coordinates, and administers the airport’s hangar/plane port waitlist procedure including fees and operating procedures.
Follows all safety regulations.
Maintains regular and on-time attendance.
Supports MNAA’s commitment to is culture and values, including Respect, Integrity, Service and Excellence (RISE).
Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Federal and state laws and regulations governing the operations of a municipal airport such as Federal Aviation Administration regulations.
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations; Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements; Metro Nashville and State Water Quality storm water rules and regulations.
Airport safety and security programs and guidelines; contingency and emergency procedures; emergency planning and response.
Airport wildlife management and control requirements; environmental regulations and review process.
Principles, methods and practices pertaining to the operation of a general aviation airport.
Methods, practices, equipment and materials used in the operation of a general aviation airport.
Project administration coordination and program administration.
Principles and practices of budget preparation and administration.
Principles of employee supervision, selection, training, work evaluation and discipline.
Operate personal computer hardware and utilize word processing, spreadsheet, and related software programs; operate a calculator.
Utilize two-way radio and aviation radio.
Operate a motor vehicle.
Plan, organize, and implement airport’s goals, objectives, policies, and practices.
Analyze and solve problems; interpret contracts and requirements.
Interpret, analyze, apply and implement complex laws, regulations, manuals, and other materials.
Communicate clearly and concisely and create effective oral and written presentations.
Prepare clear, concise, and complete reports and correspondence.
Prepare, monitor and administer operation’s budget.
Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with the TDOT Aeronautics staff, contractors, consultants, government officials, tenants, the public and citizen groups encountered in the course of the work.
Plan, oversee, coordinate, and evaluate the work of supervisory and support staff.
Exercise independent judgment and initiative within established guidelines.
Work independently.
Ability to work extended hours or be on-call to respond to Airport emergencies or special events.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) badge.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree inairport management, public administration, business administration or related field.
4-7 years managerial experience in the operation of a general aviation or commercial service airport.
Class D Driver’s License.
Certified Member of American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE).

Preferred:

Master’s degree inairport management, public administration, business administration or related field.
Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) certification (or able to obtain) within 12-18 months of employment.
