Basic Function:

Serve as a key member of the Intercollegiate Athletic department’s communications staff, assisting in the development of integrated strategies that forward the department’s mission. Perform social media and communications work and assist in the creative strategy, planning, and execution of all online programs. Serve as the primary media relations contact for a sport program with the possible addition of another sport. Reports to Director, Athletics Communications.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

Execute digital strategy in conjunction with athletic communications staff, marketing and sales staff, coaching staff and University Communications and Marketing (UCM) to assist in driving and reaching goals.

Build, manage, and maintain all relevant social media platforms, content, and programs.

Develop graphic design templates for departmental sports teams.

Develop communication concepts to increase revenue of department, to include ticket sales, corporate sales, fundraising, and marketing.

Grow the Intercollegiate Athletic department’s profile on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, other relevant social media platforms, email, and offline.

Oversee social media strategies and utilize the platforms and other tools to their maximize their effectiveness.

Interact with local, regional, and national media to place and pitch stories and ideas, enhancing the reach and visibility of Kent State Intercollegiate Athletics.

Constantly explore the latest developments in digital strategy and online activism to ensure Kent State Intercollegiate Athletics is on the cutting edge of new technology, tools, and platforms.

Serve as sports information contact for the media for various sport programs, including reporting results of sport contests to the media.

Develop online data reporting and strategy to effectively drive activity and support.

Assist sport programs and coaching staffs in promotion, visibility, and recruiting methods.

Perform related duties as assigned and as permitted under NCAA and Mid-American Conference (MAC) rules and regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, sports administration/management, or a relevant field. Must be able to travel and to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.

License/Certification:

Collegiate athletics

Skill In:

Adobe Creative Suite Applications
Stat Crew and Genius Sports Applications
Interpersonal, verbal, and written communication *
Writing for web and social media channels
Using Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and other social media platforms *

Ability To:

Learn and develop graphics to be used on social platforms *
Keep Kent State Intercollegiate Athletics' web properties current
Research and apply developments in social media and digital strategy
Travel and work nontraditional hours *

Preferred Qualifications – if applicable:

Experience in sports communications with emphasis on men's basketball experience

Experience managing social media accounts

Graphical design experience

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building and off campus, including overnight trips.

Working Schedule:

Must be able to travel and to work nontraditional hours, including evenings and weekends as needed.
